‘Those fellows aren’t our usual costermongers,’ murmured Sherlock Holmes as we stood at the entrance to our lodgings.
‘Shall I examine their wares and practice my powers of observation?’
Holmes snorted. ‘By all means, dear boy. You could use the experience.’
I crossed Baker Street and inspected the meagre offerings
‘We usually get a greater selection of much fresher fruit,’ I announced.
The youth shuffled uncomfortably, his face downcast. His young assistant fumbled about and eventually produced two acceptable apples. ‘Ere, Doctor, on the house.’
‘Well?’ asked Holmes upon my return.
‘Those weren’t our regular costermongers but our Irregular ones.’
