‘It’s a well-known fact that a voice of quality can hit the right note to shatter a wineglass,’ said our host, Mr Finbar McEllry. ‘And I used this fact to escape my German captors back in the Bollwerksturm.’
I examined my own wineglass with tipsy disbelief.
‘Thinking I was finally broken, they raised their glasses in a mock salute. I took in a deep breath and produced such a note that it shattered their wineglasses! Using their blindness, I made my escape.’
Holmes raised a sceptical finger.
‘The human voice can indeed shatter wineglasses… so long as they are empty.’
