Sherlock Holmes and I sat in the Scotland Yard war-room observing the police’s strategy session to catch Boss Macey, the smuggler king of the Thameside wharfs.
Holmes and I knew Macey and his crew and even respected them although begrudgingly. The Boss’s operations had spread into his community and by organising crime, his patch became one of London’s safest neighbourhoods.
Inspector Lestrade asked how we liked his plan. There was nothing left to do but wish him luck.
‘Have fun storming the castle!’
‘Do you think they will succeed?’
‘It's a million-to-one chance, but it might just work!’ Holmes replied.
