Baker Street

‘Lashes from my riding crop would mean nothing. Men like Windibank eventually get what they deserve.’

‘I hope so.’

‘Watson, it puzzles me that although all the evidence led away from Mr Angel, you suspected fraud from the start.'

‘It’s a pity Miss Sutherland didn’t see the deceit.’

‘How could she possibly?'

‘Well, there was his name, or rather, his chosen alias.’

‘Whatever do you mean?’

‘It’s an anagram… ‘Hosmer Angel’… ‘He’s A Mongrel’. Mr Windibank had a cruel sense of humour. I bet he thought he was being clever, thinking his step-daughter was only suited to marry a dog.’

Takes a writer to spot something like that...

Watson would spot that!
(I take guilty pleasure in having Watson coming up with something totally left-field and astounding Holmes with it. It keeps Holmes on his toes! (Thanks for commenting!)

(I spent most of the day re-reading canon to find something I could actually drabble on... my head hurts!)

*jaw drops* oh my god, how did I never see that before?!

*bows down in awe to your mad anagram skills*

Oh, fabulous! I'm pathetically awful at anagrams myself, but even if I weren't, I don't think I would have caught this. Brava!

Thank you! First poetry, now anagrams... my poor brain has been stretched in many new directions!

So very, very clever! And loads of fun. I love the idea that anagrams are one sort of clue Watson can pick up before Holmes. Nicely done!

One of my favourite things to write is Watson showing that he has skills. If this astounds Holmes in any way, so much the better! Thank you for the compliments!

This one was more luck than skill, I'll admit! The prompt was to re-write the ending of a canon story. When I realised the anagram, I knew I had to use it!
