‘Is that flatmate of yours supposed to be up by now?’

‘The doctor does not keep regular hours, Inspector.’

‘I’ve never seen him miss one of Mrs Hudson’s breakfasts.’

‘Help yourself to it. A hard boiled egg doesn’t get any colder.  If Watson cannot haul himself out of bed by 10:30, he has clearly forfeited.’

‘You were out late last night, dragging poor Watson all over town on one of your cases!’

‘You say that like he was an unwilling participant.’

‘Humour me, Holmes. Go check on him.’

‘Fine’

‘Is he awake?’

‘No, flag us a cab to the hospital!’

I like how Lestrade is the observant and questioning party in this fic and that Holmes is the one with the blind spot. Holmes has underestimated Lestrade and overestimated Watson. Not a very fortuitous start to the day.

I don't think Doyle was very fair to poor Lestrade. Such a missed opportunity! But, in Holmes' defense, Watson did tell him that he was fine.
