The 1880’s were busy years for Sherlock Holmes and as his reputation grew, so did the demands on his time. On many occasions he found himself unprepared for the tasks at hand because, in his haste, he had forgotten to bring some item that was essential to his work.  Being a clever fellow, Mr Holmes devised a memory aid to prevent him from repeating his past mistakes.

Binoculars (to observe from a distance)
Oilskins (London weather, and worse)
Skeleton keys (beats damaging a shoulder)
Watson (sorry about your shoulder)
Envelopes (for evidence)
Lantern (and oil)
Lens (to observe up close)
