.oOOo.

Ice spotted the pavement and before I could remark upon it, I felt my foot slip and my leg lock at the knee. Desperately, I reached for my friend’s arm.

The result was an ungainly jumble of appendages and profanity.

Our clumsy efforts to extract ourselves had, no doubt, provided a chuckle or two for passers-by.

After several unsuccessful attempts, Holmes managed to regain his feet, and help me to mine.

‘My dear fellow, thank you for cushioning my fall,’ he said once he was satisfied that our injuries were confined to our prides.

His words relieved my embarrassment considerably.

.oOOo.

Yeah, but on the plus side: no real injuries this time, just some embarrassment.

It could have. This drabble transports well. I pictured it as early 1880's, but it could be read all the way to retirement.

Aww, thanks!
He's a bit gentler then in canon, but that is because Watson wrote him with a mind to impress and deter evil-doers.

I maintain through my writings that Holmes was as good a friend to Watson, as Watson was to him.
