‘Watson, what were you thinking?’ asked Sherlock Holmes pointing to the recent edition of The Strand.
Dr Watson’s ears reddened and then he replied, ‘I thought you didn’t read “that drivel”.’
Holmes tossed the offending publication at his friend. ‘This Mazarin Case is obviously not even written by you. It was your publicist, Doyle, wasn’t it?’
‘Yes. He is very much a fan of yours and he wanted to try his hand at penning one of your cases. His editor had been clamouring for my next mystery for his latest edition and I was still recovering from Evan’s bullet wound.’

Date: 2015-07-25 10:45 pm (UTC)Better reading of a Holmes case from someone other than Watson, than not reading at all. (I don't think it's too bad, myself.)

You can understand that, with my routine of work, I should find myself on familiar terms with half the rogues' gallery, and you will agree that exceptions are invidious."
Thanks!
